Sculpted for The Perth Mint by renowned US engraver, John M. Mercanti, the coin's reverse portrays the wedge-tailed eagle with outstretched wings. Reflecting its formidable hunting skills, the artistry highlights the bird's large and superbly effective eyes and a large, hooked beak. As well as the inscription 'AUSTRALIAN WEDGETAILED EAGLE' and The Perth Mint's 'P' mintmark, the reverse also includes the coin's weight, fineness and its 2025 year-date.

John M. Mercanti is the 12th Chief Engraver of the US Mint and has produced more coin and medal designs than any other employee in the organisation's history.
